As a result of human hatred and fear, wolves have become extinct in many areas of North America. Although the bounty system was abolished in the late 1960s, it is still legal to poison or trap wolves. Today, only a few northern states in the U.S. have wolf populations and parts of Canada have also been overhunted. Fortunately, modern attitudes towards wolves are changing. There is now a joint program between the governments of both countries to relocate Canadian wolves to some northern states in the U.S. The program will only be successful if people stop misunderstanding and mistreating wolves.
